19世紀英國維多利亞女王在登基後為了紀念她早逝的夫婿 Albert, 所以將一些建築改名跟Albert有關, 或是蓋紀念性的建築物. Royal Albert Hall 和V&A 就是當中的代表之一, 上週六趁天氣好, 在逛了自然歷史博物館後, 我走到附近的肯辛頓公園, 想近距離看Royal Albert Hall.
Royal Albert Hall 是倫敦有名的音樂廳, 我會特別有印象是因為Robbie Williams 在那辦了個JAZZ專輯的演唱會 (有精彩DVD), 上次到倫敦時只有遠遠的照像, 這次打算直接走到它面前看個仔細.
它本身就是個特別的建築, 很雄偉
在圓頂最上方, 你可以看到是刻有一行大大的字句, 因為我沒辦法看到全部, 於是我上網找到了全文....
"This hall was erected for the advancement of the arts and sciences and works of industry of all nations in fulfilment of the intention of Albert Prince Consort. The site was purchased with the proceeds of the Great Exhibition of the year MDCCCLI. The first stone of the Hall was laid by Her Majesty Queen Victoria on the twentieth day of May MDCCCLXVII and it was opened by Her Majesty the Twenty Ninth of March in the year MDCCCLXXI. Thine O Lord is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty. For all that is in the heaven and in the earth is Thine. The wise and their works are in the hand of God. Glory be to God on high and on earth peace."
它的對面就是肯辛頓公園, 過個馬路就到了, 正對面也有一個紀念Albert的建築 -- Albert紀念碑, 因為金光閃閃的, 很不像歐洲風格, 反倒讓我覺得很"泰式"
仔細看看Albert, 原來他長這樣....
在紀念碑四個角各自有一個雕像, 仔細看一下雕像和下方的字, 原來每一個雕像代表著世界上的一個" 洲", 有不同的人和代表動物.
我對亞洲特別有興趣, 亞洲的代表動物是大象, 仔細看照片左下坐著的人, 是個清朝中國人, 穿著古代中國服裝, 拿著瓷器, 會確定他是清朝是因為在側面可以看到他的辮子
其他還有非洲, 代表動物是駱駝
還有美洲, 代表動物是美洲野牛
當然還有歐洲, 代表動物是犛牛
挺有趣的, 在更內圈的四個角, 也是四個有意思的雕像, 分別代表 Manufacture, Engineering, Commerce, Agriculture. 看了這些週邊有意義的雕像, 於是我對這個紀念碑的印象變好了一點......
